By Morgan Beard · Editor-in-Chief BASEL, SWITZERLAND MCH Swiss Exhibition Ltd., organizers of the Baselworld trade fair, announced that it would bring all of its exhibitors back to Basel for the 2004 show. The 2003 show saw the exhibitor base split between Basel and Zurich, which is about an hour away by car. The branded exhibitors, about two-thirds of the total, remained at the show's traditional home in Basel, while the international pavilions the Hall of the Universe went to the new venue in Zurich. The move was intended to give exhibitors more space and allow new companies to exhibit. It ended in disaster, however, when a last-minute government ban on exhibitors from SARS-affected countries decimated the Zurich show and drove buyers away. For the exhibitors who remained in Basel in 2003, the hall layout will remain the same. Zurich exhibitors will be moved to a separate venue within the city of Basel, identified in a statement from Swiss Exhibition as "an existing warehouse complex which lies within walking distance of the main exhibition site." The 2004 Baselworld watch and jewelry show will take place on April 15-22. Posted: July 10, 2003 |
